Why ChatGPT doesn't show your products — and how to check

If your store never comes up when someone asks an assistant for what you sell, it's almost never about price or quality. It's about whether the machine can read you.

When a shopper asks ChatGPT or Gemini for a product, the assistant doesn't browse your store. It reads it — the page markup, the structured data, the identifiers — and if it can't confirm what you're selling, it recommends a store it can.

The three things that keep you out

1. Blocked crawlers

If your robots.txt turns away GPTBot or PerplexityBot, the assistant can't read a single product. This one line silently removes you from every answer.

2. No structured data

A product page you read fine can be unreadable to a machine if it carries no JSON-LD — or JSON-LD missing price, availability or brand.

3. No identifiers

Without a GTIN or part number, the assistant can't be sure your item is the one the buyer asked about, so it plays it safe with a listing it can confirm.

How to check

Run your store URL through a free audit. It reads your catalog the way an assistant does and tells you, in plain language, exactly what's blocking you — and then whether you rank, lose, or have an opening across each surface.
